Holiday Magic

April 27, 2021

Jolene Iglesias saw a need in her community and just wanted to give back. With a little help from friends, Jolene was able to collect donations and gifts to make Christmas extra special for families that needed it.

The holiday season can be a difficult time for many, but especially for single parent households when the costs of gifts and meals can put a strain on their finances. Many will stretch their dollars to make the season as special as possible for their kids. Jolene saw two such families and knew that she had the ability to help and make the holiday season a little less stressful, and a lot more magical for them. After reaching out to her friends and taking to her social media through her Real Estate business, many wanted to be of service as well, and Jolene was able to provide catered Turkey Dinners courtesy of Beet n Boo’s Bistro and Catering, along with other gifts to the moms who needed it.

The Stober Foundation saw this act of kindness and wanted it to continue to grow for other families that also needed a special holiday supper. In working with the Central Okanagan Food Bank, the foundation has always been inspired by how many community members they serve in Kelowna and beyond. To celebrate Jolene’s giving, the Stober foundation matched every dollar raised and then timesed it by 5, giving $10,000 to the Central Okanagan Food Bank, knowing that there it could have an incredibly large reach for other families in the Okanagan.

In her act of kindness, Jolene exemplified the best this community has to offer: being there for one another and demonstrating that no one has to do it alone. This story was a special one for the Stober Foundation because it ignited the drive to officially formulate the Gratitude Project and continue to foster giving in the community, both big and small.
