When we think of dogs, we usually think about how cute they are, how loyal, how much we want to pet them… wait, what were we talking about. Oh right, dogs! But owning a dog and taking care of one is so much more than cuddles, it’s really about love and companionship. That’s why organizations like Paws It Forward are really important to the care and consideration of an animal’s well-being. Paws It Forward, a non-profit based in Kelowna, BC, founded in 2011, rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes hundreds of dogs from around the world who have been neglected, abandoned or abused every year.

It is a charity that the Stober Foundation is proud to support (hence all the photos with dogs our Executive Director Keith takes)– with a mission that every dog deserves to be treated humanely. We wanted to know what impact they’ve been able to make with the funding from our foundation, and they had an amazing story for us!

“Recently, with help in part from the Stober Foundation’s donation, we were able to coordinate a massive rescue transport from rural Manitoba. These dogs were living outside in freezing temperatures, without access to adequate food, and some were suffering from an array of serious medical issues. Most of them had never known human kindness, and some had experienced abuse and neglect. It took 4 volunteers 16+ hours of driving in two rented vans (as well as countless volunteers assisting on the receiving end!), but now 40 dogs are safe, warm, healthy, and getting loved on big time by their foster and forever humans! This includes 3 litters of puppies with their mommas!”

Overall, the gift from the Stober Foundation contributed to the rescuing of 40 dogs! The impact for those who adopt and foster those rescue animals means companionship, love, and a second chance for their pet. “They selflessly open their homes and hearts to these dogs. Our community’s support means we able to continue to rescue and rehome dogs in need. For the dogs, that means everything!” says Lisa from PIF.

Besides saving as many dogs as they can, their goals this year are to spread awareness about responsible rescues and breeders. The increase in demand for furry companions during the pandemic increased significantly, but so too did the profiteering off of and lack of care and consideration for animals. Being able to adopt a rescue is a fantastic option for bringing a pet into your life and family.
